Melissa currently lives in Nebraska and enjoys teaching students of all ages. She offers free trial lessons to all prospective students. She has over fifteen years of teaching experience and her goal as a teacher is to cultivate an environment that gives each student an outstanding musical experience where they are able to become independent, critical, and creative thinkers.
Melissa believes that each person is individually creative and musical, and she enjoys helping to cultivate this creativity in his or her own journey as a musician. All lessons are always prepared ahead of time each week, with carefully crafted lesson plans for each individual student based on his or her own need and skill-level. As a teacher Melissa is always striving to provide a fun and friendly environment, while also implementing the proper foundation. This includes technique exercises, music theory and history, scales, method books, and music literature. Each of these elements combined help to equip students with the tools needed to enjoy playing the piano for a lifetime.
Growing up as a Michigander in the Metro-Detroit area, Melissa was very fortunate to have had many diverse music opportunities. She has strong music roots within her family and because of this, music has always been a part of her life. Melissa began piano lessons at the age of six and learned early on that sharing music with others was truly something that she enjoyed. She studied piano, violin and percussion until she went to college. Melissa began teaching piano students while she was in high school and grew to love teaching because of this.
Melissa graduated from Michigan State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in music. While in college she was able to maintain teaching private piano and percussion lessons, percussion ensembles, and beginning violin lessons. For the past eight years she owned her own piano studio in Michigan, while maintaining a studio of at least thirty students of multiple ages, levels, and interests.
Melissa is a brand-new resident of Nebraska. She recently got married, moved to Lincoln with her husband, and is very excited to be a part of the amazing music community here!
