Ken Janak – Clarinet, Saxophone, Jazz Styles & Improvisation
Ken Janak is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is recently retired
from public school teaching, having spent 33 years teaching instrumental music in the
Papillion LaVista Community Schools. As an educator, Ken strongly believes in stressing
proper fundamentals and playing techniques to help students produce music in a natural
and relaxed manner. Many of Ken’s students have won positions in all-state and various
honor bands throughout the region and nationally.
As a saxophonist with the Omaha Symphony, he has performed with Wayne Brady,
Bernadette Peters, Manhattan Transfer, Michael Feinstein, and many other well-known
artists. Ken also frequently performs in the pit orchestra for various touring Broadway
shows through Omaha Performing Arts. He currently plays lead alto sax with the Omaha
Big Band and is also active in the ethnic music scence, carrying on a family tradition and
leading his own Czech band. Other performance credits include the Nebraska Jazz
Orchestra, the Glen Miller Orchestra, Chuck Pennington Orchestra, Mike Gurciullo’s Las
Vegas Big Band, and numerous other regional and local groups playing styles ranging
from polka to classical and rock to jazz.
Rates: $25 per half hour lesson
